Malachite, serpentine, jade and green marble - varieties of the same stone or not? Are they interchangeable?
I saw that a lot of different products are made from all these stones, ranging from jewelry to tables, fireplace portals, etc. Is there a fundamental difference between these stones, or are they completely interchangeable and suitable for any finishing work? Do they have the same properties? Why are their prices so different?

I will not say about the mechanical properties, but their appearance is very different. Malachite, for example, cannot be replaced with jade.

Completely different stones, differing in composition, properties and appearance. Marble is a rock composed of calcite with an admixture of celadonite and other minerals that give it a green color. Malachite is a mineral, copper carbonate. Serpentine is a rock, a type of serpentinite. Nephrite is the name of entangled-fibrous aggregates of minerals of the amphiboles group (tremolite, actinolite). Moreover, the color of jade is not necessarily green. The cheapest here is marble. More expensive coil. Then malachite. Well, the most expensive is jade. Malachite is suitable only for interior decoration due to its softness and instability to the effects of precipitation and the aggressive environment of the street. A good example is the Hermitage. The rest of the stones, in principle, are suitable for finishing work, but with an eye to the fact that the serpentine is a soft and fragile stone. Except on the walls.
